If i start Skype and call a friend then load SL, the sound in SL has gone. If i load SL and then load/call on skype i cant.
I found that sudo apt-get install esound fixed this (installing this removes "pulseaudio-esound-compat" , but with 8.04 RC updates keep removing esound and installing "pulseaudio-esound-compat".
Is this a Linux SL issue? or a skype issue? Is SL compatible with pulseaudio yet?

Yes I would say it's yet another issue with the wonderful new 'Pulseaudio' sound, for some reason it cant (at the moment) handle as many sound processes as Esound can. I hope it sorts it out soon as sound I would say, is pretty much vital to most modern PC's these days, lol.
I would say stick with 7.10 for the time being, but as 8.04 is going to completely replace it soon, I can only hope things work out.

The issue is not with PulseAudio; it's the way Ubuntu configures (or fails to configure) PulseAudio in the default distro. I'm using a very customized install of 8.04 and it's working very well, but I'll have to do a clean install at some point, so I can write up a howto for getting it to work "from scratch".

In the errata for the spring 2008.1 release Mandriva is claiming it's a Skype issue. They recommend running skype as follows: pasuspender skype and voting on the skype jira to get skype to fix it. http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2008.1_Errata#No_sound_in_Skypehttps://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCL-271Strangely enough I installed the very latest Skype for mandriva and it doesn't seem to have the problem on my system.
