SL works well after a fresh installation of kubuntu kde4. but only after some software installation, or some updates, seems like that sl folder/files permissions change. and i can only run it as root.

This looks like a regression
I'm guessing your default locale is one that uses a , (comma) for a decimal separator
Try forcing your locale to C export LANG="C"
will do then run the viewer. You will either need to start the viewer from a terminal window after chaining the LANG or adding the command to set the lang to the secondlife start script.
Please can you confirm if this works

tyvm Michelle2, it works!!! and now, is it possible to run SL by clicking on its icon (that i created)? or does it work only from the terminal?
".... or adding the command to set the lang to the secondlife start script." which part of the script is to be modified?
tyvm in advance!!!
