Installed the new 18 SL client, and put in the line for GraphicsCardMemory in settings.ini, but it still seems to be stuck on 16mb video memory in Advanced Graphics in preferences. The 128mb is "selected" but its greyed out as are all the options except 16mb. So the client is running but almost nothing will actually rezz.
Any other things to configure/modify/install in either the ATI driver setup or in SL client?
Thanks

This is a bug, but normal behaviour for the linux client at the moment (I am afraid). It is worth putting your gfx card RAM in as 500MB and maybe removing the cache directory and putting a soft link to /dev/shm as has been suggested elsewhere here. The textures will still take a long time to load though.

The graphics card memory fix is only half of the problem. Without the system memory to back it up, SL won't use any more than the bare minimum memory for the graphics card (16MB).
Unfortunately, system memory detection appears to be broken (it always returns 1MB), so until that's fixed the graphics card hack is pretty much useless.

For me too. If you do a "ctrl shift 3" to get the texture window, you will see that the cache thinks it is WAY too full, and shows a negative value for cache size. It is permanently trying desperately to empty itself. However, setting my graphic memory to 128 MB (which I have) helped me a WHOLE lot. It seems this value IS used sensibly, somewhere. I would LOVE a settings.ini override for Memory Size, like the one for the graphics memory! 1MB is really SO little

That's how it works, it'll always be grayed out, but if it's selected then that's what it's using. At least that's the way it's always been for me.
