I have a dual boot computer with Windows XP and Ubuntu. I use an Nvidia driver. I had SL running properly in both Windows and Linux.
Then I added SCIM (smart common input method) to the Linux so that I can enter Chinese characters. I had been out of the game awhile and when I tried to play again had to download game version 1_19. It works fine in Windows. I can start the game in Linux and see the splash screen. When I try to log-in I can't. Since it is a log-in issue, I tried entering a ticket, but got no support.
What I have been seeing is that my name shows up right. My password has been remembered, but when I click on "Connect" I get a "Login failed" message. When I try to retype the password, I can't
Today I upgraded to the Heron Ubuntu release, hoping that it would fix the problem. It behaves a bit differently. It shows my SL last name with first name and password blank. When I try to type my first name, it auto repeats so that I get LLLLLLLLLLLLL or nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn I can't type in my name or password correctly, so can't login.
I'm not sure how to disable SCIM to check that it is really the problem.
I'd like to attend SL Chinese school but need help. I can use Chinese in normal Ubuntu stuff like word processing and email. SCIM does have a nasty habit of switching languages when I don't want to.
