Although I sure like to be able to log into SL again, I would be more happy if the new release is more stable and therefore comes a bit later.

I also think it would be great if on some of the new releases one of the drawbacks gets "killed -like Copy&Paste. I guess this would not be to complicated but would make many Linux users happy.

Personally I am not very keen on sparkling new graphical features.

I think at the moment we may be lucky if we get the .34 release.

Whether this helps us is still a moot point.

Karen asked us to submit bug reports for the SL Linux Alpha Client. I think this is the only way we will get someone to look at the linux client; at least our problems will be transmitted to development.

So I would say, anyone who has not yet reported a bug via the linux client, or ABOUT the linux client from wine or windows, please do so. No noise, no attention, I think :p

hehe, reminds me of my saying: The squeaky wheel gets grease. The squeaky wheel bearing gets replaced.

considering the nature of some in the Linux community combined with the addictiveness of Second Life, I'm surprised that I haven't seen more home-made workarounds and hacks to make it work.

I'm just stumped that I can't get 1.10 to run in ANY computer in my house, except this one and only within Wine (and very slowly at that). I don't really have any useful info for debugging, tho. )-: Sorry...

There are no homemade workarounds availible as SL is closed source, so making a hack would include some heavy engineering, reverse engineering, the time it would take would be more or equal to the time LL needs to fix this. not to mention hackiing the client is illegal.

There HAVE been some hack-fixes, even so: the Copy & Paste into client script, and the Alpha layer fix.

Reverse engineering for the purpose of compatibility is covered under fair use. It's against LL's Terms of Service, but they don't actually seem to mind even that, since the libsecondlife project got their unofficial support, I believe.

Actually reverse engineering and hacking is something different. The thing is that Linden Labs seems to have understand that they will not be able to control the whole development or that they do hinder progress if they did so. I think their policy was written intending to let them be able to stop everything that hurts SL. I think they will be happy if others take over big parts of the development and they can concentrate on making money. I see SL like a "Linux distribution": We can work with it, rigth now the licenses and the missing source code does nto allow us to do all we want.

Linux support by Linden Labs is pathetic :-(
There has been NO visible development since the beta was released in February.. And now it's almost June! 4 months and not even a small feature fixed (well, okay, the one-liner alpha fix might count as something, but that's almost nothing). I think not even a man-week of work has been spent on the Linux version... :-(

In fact, SL has become more unstable on Linux than the previous version...

I read that Tale in the Desert 3 MMORPG has a Linux client, did anyone check that out? Does that work well?
