The next meeting of the SL LUG will take place on Saturday 13th May, 12pm SLT (8pm GMT, 9pm CET) at Maryport (182,150). As usual you can find the location using the find (Events -> check upcoming -> search for 'Linux')

New Newness!
Nothing planned for this meeting other than to discuss the wonderful new client, the new features and how the Linux port faired. Second Life 1.9.1 is due to be released on Wednesday so fingers crossed it all goes to plan and we get don't get left out. The Preview does contain a lot of very exciting new features, so expect lots of illuminated floppies!

Next Week
No competition / planned event for this week as we will have more than enough to talk about (hopefully). The following meeting (pencilled in for the 20th) I want to talk about / get ideas concerning a logo for the SL LUG. You have a week and a half to get those creative juices flowing :D

Just a small point, but the logo would be for the Linux Client Users Group?

You and Zi are officers there, and could (with involvement of the other officers) add the logo to the group, then... :)

It would be nice to have a properly designed logo for the Linux Client group, and of course it should be placed into the group's definition. :)

Of course, once we have a logo, there is no end to the things we can do with it :)

... I wonder if that was because of the "other" clients (Mac, Linux)?

1.9.1 was working OK under Windows native... At least, as good as previews work normally ;)

I had SOME problems under wine, where it was wanting "a new version" all the time, but it ran there too...

Ya, if you start the preview straight from the 'start second life now?' option in the installer it runs - otherwise it incorrectly wants to download a 'new' version every time. Goodness knows how gnarly that presumably-wine bug is.

edit: Oh, I should point out, the preview version won't work RIGHT NOW either way because of the server downtime.

I didnt have any problems running the preview with wine (aside from the crashing and dying avery 3-5 minutes....)

.

I have that too... Running the Preview installed with wine, in my virtual C: drive, always asks for a new version. Reinstalling works ok, though.

How did you install Preview, Zi? Maybe you did something right, that we didn't... :p

Mrew!

Actually, you did something right that I didn't :) I tried to run the preview client on cedega, but got the same "update client" message. I never tried running it right from the installer screen ;)

Aha! Blew your previous wine folders away? I will do that! Just the SL folders, I presume?

See? You cheated ... :p

All the wine folders - I don't actually use it for anything on my home machine.

:( Didn't work for me. Also 32 bit is still a problem (alpha channel).

But it runs prefectly if I reinstall it every time I want to run it :D
