I've tried running my linux client, but I never got a window. Then I remembered that there's a handy log file of the last run. Open, read. Color depth? I need 32 bit colors! I've only had a tad of experience with Linux (the idea of installing it was to get more) and all of it with a terminal, not the graphical UI. So, I go poking around in the system settings looking for anything that might have the color depth setting. I look EVERYWHERE and can't find it. I asked a room mate and he said that the setting has to be changed manually in the X11 config file. I found that and found the color depth line, changed it to 32, saved and exited. Run SL. Nothing. Check log file. No change (as in the dates were still from Febuary 2nd).
And idea where I've gone wrong?

Try making that number you changed in xorg.conf 24 instead of 32. I *think* "32-bit color" is really 24-bit color with an alpha channel, or something, and Linux doesn't differentiate.
Barring that, check that you've got accelerated graphics and the latest drivers for your card (binary drivers if you're using an ATI or Nvidia)

I'll change the 32 next time I start up in Mandrake (although I recently managed to FINALLY get windows stable again--it's only been about 2 years since I fried the CPU and broke everything). I'll have to check on the drivers. Not sure if I can get linux version. It's something to look into.
