Hi,
I have been running 1.13.2 with no problems, however 1.14.0 crashes immediately after startup.

The black main window appears, with a dialog box "Display settings have been set to recommended levels based on your system configuration", after a few seconds, both windows close.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Do you get prompted to submit a crash report? If so, I recommend that you submit a crash report and let me know here, so I can go take a look.

Thanks. It looks like the bug report collating system isn't happy right now, so could you please paste your SecondLife.log? Or at least the last ~100 lines.

If the new viewer isn't working for you, I found this link to download Second Life 1.13.2.2

Strange - could you try uncommenting 'export LL_BAD_ESD=x' in the 'secondlife' script?

I'd also be interested in seeing the contents of ~/.secondlife/logs/stack_trace.log after such a crash. Thanks.

Thanks Tofu,

I uncommented export LL_BAD_ESD=x
still crashing, here is the content of stack_trace.log

Hmm, please let me know if the stack trace starts to show more info, or it looks like we're a bit stuck. I'll think about it some more. I'd like to think that it matches an FMOD-related crasher being seen on some windows systems too since 1.14.x.x, but don't have any clear evidence for that right now.

Hi Tofu,
I have run it a few times, but the stack trace stays the same.
I have just tried running V1.13.3.2 and took a look at the SecondLife.log. What I found
interesting, is that where the V1.14 crashes with:

2007-04-02T17:04:29Z WARNING: signal_handlers: *** Caught signal 11

V1.13 instead gives the following warning:
2007-04-02T17:54:30Z WARNING: Unknown control type web_browser

maybe that is a clue to the problem, or perhaps I am barking up the wrong tree :)

Thanks

That looks like a clean quit, Yiffy, rather than a crash. Right now I can't think why it would quit without user interaction though!

unsure. This happened as i launched SLRun.pl. As the SL window opened it immediately closed. I'm using a knoppix CD that has SL pre installed in it and ready to use. I remember the last time i used it, everything worked well. I think something about 1.14 didn't have compatibility with something on the CD.

Hi,
I have been running 1.13.2 with no problems, however 1.14.0 crashes immediately after startup.

The black main window appears, with a dialog box "Display settings have been set to recommended levels based on your system configuration", after a few seconds, both windows close.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Just downloaded 1.15.2 in preparation for the grid restart.
As I expect this is a required update, I wouldn't be able to fall back on 1.13.2, I fired it up with some trepidation.
I was relieved to see that whatever caused the crash in 1.14.0 has now been fixed and I can actually get to the login screen.
Now waiting impatiently for the restart :)

INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: JavaPluginFactory5 init - no agent?

I get the same message. My secondlife hasn't started since 1.4. It sure would be nice if they could provide a fix for this:

INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: JavaPluginFactory5 init - no agent?
Our embedded Mozilla scans for an existing Firefox/Mozilla's plugins (I'd rather it didn't...) and for some reason hates some versions of the Java plugin. A workaround is to delete the java plugin from firefox/mozilla, though that's obviously pretty kludgey.

I am not sure what you are asking me to delete. Is the workaround to delete a file from the uncompresed SecondLife_i686_1_15_1_3.tar.bz2, or are you suggesting deleting a file from my Linux system?

In either case, what might the file be named?

INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: JavaPluginFactory5 init - no agent?

I managed to fix the problem on my Gentoo system. I am not sure that the first two steps are necessary. It still gets an error about if (hour < 5), but at least it proceeds past it to start up the 1.15.1.3 release.
  1. Add nsplugin to the USE flags in /etc/make.conf
  2. Recompile the world with the new use flags. This makes the java plugins for the browser. If you already had nsplugin in your USE flags, you can skip this step.
    CODE
emerge --update --deep --ask --newuse world

  3. Emerge the xulrunner project to get libxul.o
    CODE
    emerge --ask xulrunner

  4. As root, make a link to libxul.so in the firefox library folder
    CODE
    su
    cd /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/
    ln -s /usr/lib/xulrunner/libxul.so

  5. Also as root, make a link to libmozjs.so, as SL expects
    CODE
    su
    cd /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/
    ln -s libmozjs.so libmozjs.so.1

  6. Delete the app_settings/mozilla-runtime-linux-i686 folder from the uncompressed SL tar.bz2
    CODE
    rm -rf SecondLife_i686_1_15_1_3/app_settings/mozilla-runtime-linux-i686

  7. Replace the deleted folder with a link to the Gentoo Firefox libraries
    CODE
    cd SecondLife_i686_1_15_1_3/app_settings
    ln -s /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/ mozilla-runtime-linux-i686

Now at least SL starts for me, as it proceeds past the INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: JavaPluginFactory5 init - no agent? error.

Gordie Lachman's fix works - Gentoo
05-19-2007 15:15
By following (exactly) Gordie Lachman's fix/procedure above works. I have had the same problem using Gentoo. Tried testing after each step and nothing worked until all of Gordie's steps were completed exactly as specified.

Now if only SL can incorporate this in the install process so we don't have to do this fix for new installs.

Thanks a lot Gordie.
