(Required version: 1.21.5.98701.)

You must download this update to use Second Life.

Download to your Applications folder?

And hey .. guess what ... right... Not yet implemented...

Not yet ? You're kidding me right ? .. obligatory viewer update after update for almost 2 consecutive years and this is not implemented yet ? .. download and unpacking the updated code into the designated filestructure, if needed by user input of the distribution ?

Hello ? ......... outdated ? :S

Should I file a JIRA-issue for being insulted and treated as ignorant time after time ? And against what or whom ? The coders implementing this ? Or the responsible making it work this way ? :|

it should download, I agree, but maybe not run?the issue relies in SL seeing the earlier version and over writing it, Linux doesn't do this. they need to make .deb and .rpm files, along with a tarball for those not running fedora/*buntu (and other versions based on these) but this is how they chose to do it, not our fault indeed.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I'm not seeing what the problem is. When I got told that my 1.19.1.4 viewer was no longer allowed to connect to the grid, I simply quit, deleted everything in my Second_Life folder, untarred the 1.21.2.96080 archive I had downloaded a while ago into it, applied the new Cool Viewer diffs, and away I went.

Granted, when the alert first popped up telling me I could no longer use my old viewer, I clicked the button to install update, and it told me that wasn't supported. This is something that needs to be re-coded; it should instead open my web browser to the download page. Linux users are intelligent enough to go from there. Perhaps, if the Second Life client were added to the repositories, then your distro's update manager would handle it automatically (RC clients could be added to backport repo's), and this issue would never come up.

What I do find interesting is that you're being forced to upgrade from 1.21.4.x to 1.21.5.x, and I am running 1.21.2.x and not being told to update. I'm going to anyways, but still - curious.

Problem is probably I am old, bitter, using this client for almost 2 years and annoyed by errors that are adding merely to apathy for too long to keep them for granted, even if we are 'only' using a test version.

So forgive me my small rant here please.. i do feel some relief in venting.. but so does farting... ;P
