I'm trying to get the 1.12.3.6 SL client to work under FC5. I'm running the original kernel (2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp). I'm using an Nvidia GF6200 video card, with the default video driver that comes with FC5. When trying to start the SL client, I get a "window creation error" dialog box, then a message telling me I'm in 24-bit color and need 32-bit color. A second attempt or more, does not get the 32-bit-color error, but gets a "Second Life is unable to access a file it needs"... It mentions more than one copy of SL may be running.. I'm pretty sure that's not the case... I'd hoped to avoid fiddling around with this alpha client, by buying a subscription to the Cedega/Transgaming client and running the Windows SL client there... That was a bust... One other thing I noticed with the stock FC5 video driver is that I seem to be limited to a 55hz refresh rate, which at 1152x768 is a real headache generator. I've been working with Linux as a server OS (no X installed) since 1994, and thought it might be time to see how hard it would be to get off Windows, and since I'm pretty well addicted to SL, getting an SL client to work under FC5 is the driving force on my switching.... Any ideas what I need to do to get this working?? Tas

From: Tasman Perth Any ideas what I need to do to get this working?? First guess, fully accelerated video drivers. To see if you already have them, $ glxinfo | grep rendering will output direct rendering: Yes if your drivers are fully functional. Otherwise, get the nvidia drivers from nvidia.com. They may be in yum, or whatever FC uses... but they're proprietary, and I don't know yum's policy on that. Get them installed, one way or another, and see if that helps. Also, welcome to the Linux desktop world, and good luck! It's still rough around the edges.
