I updated my video card from an nvidia 6200 to an nvidia 7950 and I updated my system to Opensuse 11.1 and now the SL client no longer works.
I have tried:
1.21.6 1.22.5
1.19 - cool release 1.21.6 - cool release 1.22.5 - cool release
in every case the SL client no longer works properly.
I get error messages that my computer does not meet SL's minimum requirements. The connection is the same (DSL). The computer processor is the same 2.4 GHZ AMD. The video card is an upgrade from the previous one that did work.
So why does my computer now not meet minimum requirements?
What the clients are doing is all of them are EXTREMELY slow to rezz anything and everything (includeing the interface features). The client is acting like my processor is a pentium 1.
So what is screwed up? or how do I found out what is wrong?

It looks like the video driver isn't installed properly. Are you using the driver from the nvidia repository or the one you install manually?

Thanks. I installed the driver from the repositories. I am really hopeing that you are not going to tell me I have to do some serious futzing with the driver to get it to work properly. It is probally a false hope but everybody needs their illusions.

No, but I notice a number of people are having trouble with the client under opensuse 11.1. How much ram does your system have? I have an old Thinkpad laptop with 256M ram I've been using as a web server, but I cannot get it to work at all under 11.1. I have ordered a memory upgrade to a half gig the max) hoping that will fix the problem. I think 11.1 requires more ram than previous versions. The same may be true of the newest versions of other distros. I tried to install Kubuntu on that laptop and the live/install disk won't even load. Btw, I'm confused. You say your client's slow in rezzing anything, but you get error messages saying your cpu doesn't meet minimum req's. If the client detects an environment that does not not meet requirements, how does it start at all? I seriously doubt there's any problem with the driver. My 4GB ram computer is running that same driver very well.

If the client detects an environment that does not not meet requirements, how does it start at all? You noticed that also, eh. No clue. What I know, is that I get a window with this message that says my machine does not meat SL minimum standards and then offers to direct me to the web page that list the standards. I click on "no" and then the client loads. From: Adamas Carter I seriously doubt there's any problem with the driver. My 4GB ram computer is running that same driver very well. Well something is the problem. With the older less powerful video card, SL ran (oh sure my framerates varied from 8-13, but it did run and with out any error messages about not meeting standards). I was expecting at least a 1/3 increase in video performance but what I have is an intolerable mess on SL. And I am haveing a hard time believeing I need to double or triple my RAM to make SL run.

Ok., I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and then manually installed the drivers form the nvidia site and things are working exactly the way they should be.
I now have a framerate that varies between 25 and 45.
After reading the Opensuse forums there is a problem with the current driver .rpms installing themselves.

From: hibit Spad What I know, is that I get a window with this message that says my machine does not meat SL minimum standards and then offers to direct me to the web page that list the standards. I click on "no" and then the client loads. I get that same window when my CPU frequency governor is set to "Conservative" or "Ondemand" (or a constant low speed). Looks like the frequency shoots up only after the SL startup did the measurement, so it'll detect the lower speeds instead of the ones actually used while SL runs. Though I wonder why/how the message can be triggered by wrong graphic card drivers, too.
