I know this is forum is for problems mostly.. but I just thought i'd say that the Linux SL client works nearly flawlessly out-of-the-box on my Gentoo 64-bit system (ATI drivers, "unstable";). using "stable" libs from Portage. I was not surprised videos did not work, but it is not an issue at all for me. I tried SL from a windows system and was disappointed at it's performance and appearance compared to my Linux box.

I totally agree!

And particularly the major Quantum Leap since Tofu Linden has been handling it means that I basically NEVER use the windows client unless there is a strange situation which is evident in Linux and not in the windows client - or at the moment to upload/download stuff. Since I am one of the Idle Poor, this is not that common :p

YAY for Tofu! :D

I agree as well. I recently upgraded my CPU and video card and now I can run the linux client. It's great! Who knew ripple water actually looked pretty cool? :)

It's so great not having to use cedega anymore. Ever since we got shiny and sound, I completely switched over to Linux native. And now we have file upload (including Dale's wonderful KDE file requester hack) there's no need to even *think* about switching back anymore.

Great work! Finally the Linux community is catching up with the rest of the SL world :)
