Does SecondLife support the following graphcs card?
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: Lenovo: Unknown device 201a Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 169 Memory at ee100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) I/O ports at 1800 Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) Memory at ee200000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) Capabilities: [90] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit- Queue=0/0 Enable- Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2

I note the readme says ATI and nVidea only but I can't believe this.

I have this card in my X60 laptop and it works, you've just gotta edit the secondlife script and set "export LL_GL_BLACKLIST=j".

From: Spikeheel Starr I have this card in my X60 laptop and it works, you've just gotta edit the secondlife script and set "export LL_GL_BLACKLIST=j". As of client 1.14.0, that shouldn't be necessary any more (it's been made default, specifically to help out Intel chipset users).

I am very interested to see what the performance of Second Life is with the Intel GMA950 and higher cards.

intel chipset problems
04-07-2007 06:37
I have a toshiba pro satellite laptop using mobile intel (R) 945GM Express chipset family. Having problems, mainly after the latest update (been in SL since the beginning of this year). Is there anything I can do to avoid these problems (screen keeps crashing due to driver problems, it says) besides having to buy a new laptop? I read the message by Tofu, hope someone can help me. It seems to me that I have been more problems since the latest update.

Recent Update Hangs

I have been having alot of problems since the last update as well. Generally what happens is the packet loss goes to 100% after about 10 to 30 minutes after log on and the whole system pauses, executing one input every 2-3 minutes. Once it registers the click SL will exit normally, but it is a pain.
PS: In case it matters, I am running SL on Ubuntu 6.10 on a Compaq Presario V2000 with an Intel Graphics card (the main reason I switch was actually to be able to run SL on my laptop), a 1.5GHz processor and 512MB ram.

Intel 945GM

Hi, I'm having the same problem as Violetta; since v.1.14.0, the graphics adapter crashes on startup of SL. Display goes completely bezerk, and sometimes even only grayscale. Message says graphics driver is problem. Everything went fine before, fast and good. Guess I'll wait for next version, then if still not working get nervous Nick

Hi, The game works for me, and I have a newer ThinkPad X60 with the 945GM and a Core 2 Duo T7200 (EM64T). On the other hand, I am able to reproduce your bug if I turn on too many OpenGL extensions in the 'secondlife' script. See below item #2 for my tweaks to this script. From: someone root@vk5rms:~# lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) A few things to try: 1. Try compiling and installing the latest stable versions of X.Org (7.2), the intel graphics driver for X.Org, the Mesa3d implementation of OpenGL with DRI extensions, and of course the Intel DRI kernel module and libs. The latter three are available from Intel Linux Graphics.org, and X.Org 7.2 would probably be easiest accessed by using a newer distro if you don't have it already. Make sure you have a recent (2.6.14 or higher, 2.6.20 is good too) kernel. 2. My /opt/sl/secondlife script (the script to start the game in the root of the secondlife bin tree) is here. Make sure yours is similar, at least where graphics are concerned. 3. If all else fails, any distro-specific tweaks or hacks or patches to distro packages may be causing bad things to happen. This is a very broad and sweeping statement, but in general, you should work towards using the most commonly known to work distros: openSUSE, Fedora, and Ubuntu. I am not slighting other distros; I am just saying that if you are having difficulty and are not using one of these, it's more likely to be a distro patch because Linden is not likely to have tested their implementations on your distro with your packages. -Sean/Tiyuk Quellmalz

thx tiyuk,

okay, I read it and read it and I don't understand it. why do I have to be a computer technician to play SL? :-/ I did download and installed the latest driver for the 945 chipset family and now second life is not working at all any more. I get a bluescreen every time I start SL.

He gave a startup script, maybe you should try that The intel drivers are open source and have lagged slightly for certain extensions and tend to have some compatability issues with several games. The first instruction is to maybe try out the newer version of the driver, the second gives a startup file that has been tweaked to work with the intel chip. try using his startup script and see if it works then.

I too am getting the blue screen of death since updating my video drivers. I am looking for the startup script but can't seem to find it. What is the *exact* name of it and where can it be found within the current version?
Thanks!

The startup script is named exactly "secondlife", and it's in the package main dir. Where you installed the package? Then there is the startup script! So, if you (like me), untarred the package in your home directory, at the moment the complete path would be: ${HOME}/SecondLife_i686_1_15_0_2/secondlife If you untarred it on your desktop, probably it's in ${HOME}/Desktop/SecondLife_i686_1_15_0_2/secondlife If you untarred it in /usr/local/games, then you'll find the script in /usr/local/games/SecondLife_i686_1_15_0_2/secondlife If you untarred it in /opt/, then you'll find the script in /opt/SecondLife_i686_1_15_0_2/secondlife ...and so on. I'm sure I don't need to provide every possible example of where you could have untarred the archive: you get the drift. Of course, if you renamed "SecondLife_i686_1_15_0_2" to something else, you're the only one knowing what is the complete path of the startup script.
