I recently dicovered the joystick flycam option , which seems to be nice for machinima ( in the client menu )
Having also discovered Yukon ( http://www.neopsis.com/projects/yukon/ ) , that allows to record openGL output, and works out of the box on mandriva 2007, I tried to play with the joystick feature without luck.

My joystick is here, configured and calibrated, but SL doesn't seem to see it.

Was it implemented on linux ? Any chance that it will be ?

TY !

That would be great, I am going to buy a SpaceNavigator the moment I know I may manage to get it work with SL on Linux.

I'd love to do tests and provide feedback if that could help.

SpaceNavigator is pretty cheap (59 US$), I think it could impressively enhance Second Life's experience, and it's awesome for machinima.

Anyone knows if there any open JIRA issue I can vote to support this feature request?

The new release candidate (1.20 RC0) doesn't see my joystick.
Logitech Wingman "Extreme" on USB
Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon
KDE 3.5.8

KDE's joystick kcontrol widget sees it, and can calibrate all axes, buttons, etc.

Will you be able to get Joystick input enabled on this new viewer? I am hoping this is leading up to being able to get joystick input via LSL, and I'd really hate to be unable to develop for that just because I use Linux =^_^=

Spacenavigator is still not working with SL, too. Yes, i tried both the 3dxware and the opensource ( http://spacenav.sourceforge.net/ )driver, which are both working for blender.

Joystick support for linux clients is disabled in source code
06-02-2008 22:37
Perusing the source code recently, found logic which entirely removes the code supporting joysticks / game controllers for the linux builds. (longer writeup at home: www.lornix.com)

Very frustrating that this is not noted in 'known issues' or 'bugs' or anything. We're led to believe they'd work, and it turns out it's disabled in the source code, and will NEVER work for linux in its current state. <grumble, grumble>
