Hi,
I got SL 1.13.1.6 working on my SuSE 10 with nvidia 6200, although initially I also had this damned window creation problem. So far the client works fine with the only exception: I'm not able to enter non-english letters in chat. (I guess it won't work in other areas also.) In my case I try to enter Russian letters, but I'm sure this problem is not russian-specific.
If anyone has an idea of how to fix this, I'll appreciate greatly.
Thanks.

I just want to add that I solved the russian text display problem by substituting .ttf files in the SL's fonts/ directory with cyrillic-enabled fonts from Windows. Russian keyboard input problem remains.

What SDL version do you have on your system? If it's lower than 1.2.10, it might help to upgrade (please let us know) since that version contains better support for international input.

Dear Tofu,
I had SDL 1.2.8 and upgraded to 1.2.11.1 and it helped! Now I can chat in Russian. Thank you very much!

Dear Seagel
Last night I tried Linux i686, but I was not able to enter japanese letters in chat. Does this problem lie in my Linux setting or not?

Hi Seishi! Does it work better on First Look 1.13.3.57679? That version includes an SDL version with better unicode input.

Used Ubuntu-provided 32-bit SDL library, used SDL library accompanying the SecondLife client package, tried around with keyboard settings and locale, nothing helped. Furthermore, got a lot of error messages "LLLocale: Failed to set locale en_US.utf8"
