Hey, my power supply was burned up on my linux machine until I replaced it this week. Since Ubuntu upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy Heron 8.04, and now I can't run SL. Furthermore, with the Nvidia drivers installed, I have 800X640 as my highest resolution. I know it has something to do with my xorg.conf file, which doesn't recognize my video card, but idk how to make it autodetect my video card. I presume that this is the whole of my issue, which is why I can't enable desktop Visual Effects, which has everything to do with my 3D rendering capabilities. Any helps would be appreciated.

If the nvidia driver got installed correctly, then a sudo nvidia-xconfig should do the trick which detects your card and configures xorg.conf for you. Oh, and if you use one of the newer 2.6.27 kernels, then you cant install any nvidia drivers older than 177.xx unless you patch them. -Asriazh
p.s.: this "missing GLX error sounds like you tried to install an nvidia driver provided through synaptic, then had a change of heart and installed one provided by nvidia directly. so as long as the old synaptic version and restricted modules are installed, your distro will load both drivers, which results in a nasty messup.

Best thing is to download and install the newest NVIDIA driver. Also, every time there's a kernel or x.org update, you will need to repeat the video driver installation.
