I have problems with clicking (both left and right) in the main screen. I can access the inventory, all the buttons below, I can also close and resize them when displayed.

I'm running gentoo on a compaq presario m2000. I had previous problems running fedora 4. I was running under fluxbox, so installed gnome and still having the same problem. Any help would be appreciated as this one's got me stumped.

What's your graphics card? The first thing I'd try would be a graphics driver (or card) upgrade. SL uses a curious GL-assisted way to decide what you're clicking in-world, and it sounds like your OpenGL driver may not support it satisfactorily.

If a driver upgrade doesn't help, we can test this theory further...

It's a wierd one..

ATI Express 200M which does the shared RAM deal. I currently have it set to 32Mb.

I already adjusted the user settings to show 32Mb. I also tried reallocating more ram to the video mem, but that didn't help.
I'm using the ati-driver ebuild, which is the proprietry drivers, version 8.26.18. That's the latest ati driver version in gentoo. latest by ati is 8.27.10 but i'd prefer to try to keep the system inline, but if you think it'll help I can give it a go.

I can't upgrade the card without throwing out the laptop...

EDIT:

got it working :)

as always with linux, it's usually the seed to point you in the right direction that's required, for anyone else with this problem under gentoo:

eselect opengl set xorg-x11

ie, use the openGL libs from Xorg, not the ones that come with the ati drivers...

Thanks for the help :)

I'm having the same problem on Suse 10.1. Same graphics card in KDE: no matter what I try, the 'game' brings up the small box that says "left click to interact with the world" but I can't interact with anything in the 'game' screen. Unless of course it's in inventory or one of the menus. Someone mentioned in another post to try configuring the windows in a certain way so the clicks don't go through: tried that to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated :)

Edit: Seems nobody knows the answer. I didn't even get so much as a "smash your PC against the wall" :) I'll try reinstalling the drivers and possibly using other versions to see if they fare better (pre 8.28.8).

Edit 2: Problem solved. I tried a fresh install of Suse and the newest ATI drivers and it seems to have worked
