SL uses all available memory very quicly

Within about 1 minute, SL uses up 88%-90% of available memory and the hard disk begins to chatter like it's paging everything. Result is incredibly slow performance and an effective "crash".

System details:
Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 1.7Gz 512 mb RAM NVidia-glx (restricted drivers)
was working fine 1.15.x.x until 1.16.0.5 or 1.16.0.6
nearly clean Feisty install...
have deleted cache
have redownloaded Linux client

ive never ran it with 512mb on linux but the windows client would do the same thing, with 2k using up around 128ish mb of memory and xp sucking down 256mb it wasnt long before the sawp file was getting worked out

Thanks Osgeld, but I don't think that's related. SL was working fine on this box under the same Feisty install until the newest SL version was released. Something's leaking memory very rapidly in the new SL client.

I have the same problem here... after a couple of minutes the memory (1024 MB) is full and it starts to swap... I think its a memoryleak in the SL client.

I'm using 1.16.0.5 and it runs for hours here. Granted it does pump the CPU up into the 90%+ range a lot, but it starts, loads the cache and hovers around 480MB of memory on my system (1GB RAM).

Last night I was on for over 4 hours and I've been listening with Jade's jazz in the background at work for over 2 hours now. I'm entering this message on the same system with Firefox 2.0.

Intel Celeron D 2.66GHz
1GB PC533 RAM
SL 1.16.0.5 UI
Nividia 7300 PCI-E w/9755 drivers

I'm seeing this issue as well; the workaround I'm using is not very acceptable.

1. Quit
2. Restart
3. Be informed that "Login failed. The system is logging you out right now. Your Account will not be available until (5 minutes from now)." ((Close))
4. Wait 5 minutes
5. Finally log back in
6. 10 minutes later, swap starts thrashing again.

This is (hopefully) fixed in today's optional viewer update.

I notice that in the original log vertex buffers are dissabled. I get exactly the same behavior when I have them dissabled. When I enable them, my memory usage stays around half a gig.
