..I wonder if anyone can suggest a tip
...fairly regularly i get thrown off/crash...when I re log usually my streaming sound (listening) is grayed out and it takes me 40 minutes of retrying to get the sound working for the club I was at..general i reduce my bandwidth to 100 and try re logging in at other places before i can get things to work. I do have a wobbly net connection...but other streaming things work ok...Zatto/BBc iplayer.
I am running my viewer on latest OpenGEU Linux 8.10 running Ecomorph (kinda compiz for Enlightenment)...cos i personally think its fab ... but the relevant stuff for my question is the same for ubuntu. I am very happy with my Linux computer, but I have no deep understanding of my chosen OS.
I have nvidia card and 180.11 driver
I am very impressed with Omviewer and appreciate the regular automatic updates. But I also use and like the other alternative viewers Cool viewer, Imprudence and Meerkat as well as the latest official viewers.
much gratitude in advance zoe

little nudge/bounce
The Linux I use, OpenGEU Serena, is based on Ubuntu Intrepid.
I have asked everywhere I can think of to find a solution...any clues
(p.s. I would love to be able to search from the login page...aas I often crash inworld when trying to teleport...be good just getting there)

Sometimes if I crash, it causes the audio daemon to hang which results in a slow startup (times out trying to connect to pulse) and no sound at all. This may be what you are seeing. Killing the stuck pulseaudio process and then starting pulseaudio again fixes that problem for me.

That can happen, although if you can get sound from anywhere else while this problem is happening, then it's not Pulseaudio.
My best advice is to have a look in System Monitor and make sure no parts of SL are still running after a crash. These would include do-not-directly-run-secondlife-bin and SLVoice. Check for any hung processes. Also, this would be a good place to see if Pulseaudio hung (it will show a status of 'futex_wait' if it is).
At least on my system, the only process allowed to show a futex_wait status is gvfs. DO NOT try killing that!
