My avatar is continually naked and attracting flames and threats of ar. I have tried all the clothing suggestions from people in Help Island and I think they think I am messing around.
I have clothes listed in the inventory as worn but they do not display. I have tried undressing, clearing the cache and logging back in, all to no avail. I can pick up the torch and sword as per the training window, but not clothes. Everything else appears to be displaying properly. I can change to a female figure and back again and I can see the scenery and other avatars in the scene, and I can move around.
It is version 1.8.14.3. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with 945 graphics chipset. I am running Ubuntu 7.04 with a kernel update to 2.6.22-14. In order to get maximum resolution on this model I am running the 915resolution patch. I have to run in a window or secondlife crashes on log in.
I don't know if it is relevant but when I created my account it refused and said there was a limit to how many accounts I could have. As this is my only account I contacted Second Life and they authorised my account remotely.
I am tearing my hair out with this! Can anyone help please?

Hmmm, you might try putting on some clothes that someone else gives you, instead of the ones from the Inventory>Library folder. (Quick, someone who can get in world, please send this poor fella some clothes!!!) You might also try uninstalling and reinstalling. What an embarrassing bug, I am so sorry that your experience with SecondLife starts out like this!

I have already tried that on Help Island. Someone sent me clothes but they did not display. Looks like Second Life is not for me!

It sounds like your skin is corrupted. Have you tried changing skins? (The skin is separate from the shape). I would give you one but I am not inworld A few people have posted with similar problems before, it is not common, and also not limited to the Linux client. However, can you try logging in with the Windows client?

From: Nika Talaj A few people have posted with similar problems before, it is not common, and also not limited to the Linux client. However, can you try logging in with the Windows client? That is an important question, whether this problem would exist when logging in with a different operating system/client. It would be useful to determine whether the problem is on the client side or the server side. With regard to skins, he probably doesn't have one yet as he is still on Help Island...

This is too wierd!!
I downloaded 1.18.5.1-RELEASE CANDIDATE and I was able to clothe myself in that. However it crashed when I tried anything so I have gone back to 1.18.4.3 and my clothes downloaded and I am no longer naked!

Sounds like a temp file...

...used in texture baking was bad/locked (I am guessing - I have no idea how SL stores transitory data like this) and the upgrade/downgrade cleared the bad file/data from wherever it might be kept.

I had this problem continually, following the "baking" suggestions et al. I was able to log in using the Windows client, and the problem went away, although subsequently when I changed clothes in Linux the avatar went naked again. I finally gave up and donned a Furry skin, which though naked seems more acceptable.

That sounds very much like a bug in the system graphics drivers.
