I've been running the Linux client (18-5-3) for a couple week with negligible problems.

New Year's eve it ran OK. This morning I discovered that the menus, buttons, balloons, etc. are missing their text.. I have to navigate by memory. Also, my avatar is black, as are at least 50% of the objects within view. Other avatars show normally. This version of the SL client has always complained about not being able to find "uncode.ttf" but that hadn't stopped it from working fairly well unitl this morning.

Perhaps the new age verification controls which were activated are messing up?

I deleted the hidden secondlife directory and I deleted the installation directory. Then I reinstalled the SL Linux client but the problem remains.

Hi
I have similar effects or lack of them,i
Is it because I am running on ASUS eeepc701?
The rez is slow in every aspect and seems to stop halfway through its laborious download. Movement is also 'frozen' iand is staggered,as is typing, showing up on the screen late. commands are also slow to be recognized .

Does anyone know about the ASUS eeepc ? and if there is anything I can do to improve its quality (I realize it will never be as good as my main pc) but I would still like to try and use sl with my small laptop...any advice very welcome

Yes.
Your laptop has the following specs:
# Processor: Intel Celeron M ULV 353 900MHz, 512KB L2 Cache
# RAM: 512MB DDR2
# Hard Drive: 4GB SSD
# Screen: 7.0" (800 x 480)
# Graphics: Intel GMA 900
# Wireless LAN: 802.11b/g

This is barely above the bottom limits of the SecondLife specs, so your performance is not suprising.

I resolved my problem by installing the ATI proprietary driver for my Radeon 9700 chip.
