i installed sl for linux and when i run it, i get the error that it can't create the window. Any ideas on what is causing it and how to fix it? I did not extract it as root. I think i will go back and do that. but any feed back would be great. i am running: Pentium 4 3Ghz 1 Gb ram Radeon 9550 G card 320 Gb Hard drive. Slackware v11 OS KDE 3.5 window manager csh shell

The first thing to check is DRI: try doing: $ glxinfo |grep -i render
one of the lines returned, should say: direct rendering: Yes
if not, then that is most likely to be your problem you most likely have to download the fglx driver from ATI and use that instead of your stock X driver. It has been ages since I used ATI hardware, so someone else may most likely walk you through the rest.

I successfully ran Slackware 11 with KDE 3.5.5 and the only way it worked is with the OPenGL drivers. Check on ATI's site for Linux drivers and see what they have to offer. If nothing then would suggest an older AGP nVidia or maybe a PCI E one , but be sure you have the drivers for theVideo card you have for linux, then SL should work. OpenGL has to be there and I only know that nVidia has it, check atis site.
