sorry but im at abit of a loss and this is the place for the quickest response

last night i decided to mess with downloading some gnome themes, the individual tar files were 10-14kb each no big whoop

i got everything all snazzy and went on with my life, 10 -15 min later gnome crash gnome crash gnome crash just totally nonstop

eventually it started complaining that ice wm wasnt configured, gnome config was bad crash crash crash, i find that odd becuase
A i dont have nor have ever used ice wm and
B i installed the exact same stuff on my little ol 500mhz P3 garage computer with no issues

so now after i deal with 100 crash windows and login 3 times i can get into gnome, defaulted out but im in ... which along with all the other stuff it was bitching about it now says im out of disk space

last night i had 58gb free ... tonight i have 1.1gb free norhing was installed

so as i go reinstall (for the first time ever becuase of a crash) can you linux gods come together and help me understand WTF happened, so that i might be able to avoid or fix this in the future ?

thanks

Seems like your system filled up the log dirs, usually /var/log: you could check the size of that directory and report its size here.

As to why, I'm afraid some massive filesystem corruption is in place. It should be possible to fix, but unfortunately, not trivially.
