Second Life 1.16 Beta crashes every few minutes

Second Life 1.16 Beta crashes on my system (details) with a segmentation fault after few minutes (sometimes after 6-7 minutes, in most cases after 2-3 minutes).

I tried a dozen of times, clearing cache, changing bandwidth setting, lowering graphic details, disabling bumpmapping/shiny and audio; I edited the secondlife script uncommenting export LL_GL_NOEXT=x and disabling audio drivers but it didn't help.

Looks like it crashes while bandwidth usage is high, but I am not sure about this. I see no other particular pattern - it crashes while I am sitting, as well as zooming, moving or standing. I didn't touch IMs, friends, inventory, building or whatever else.

At a certain point, it was crashing before even entering world, until I cleared the cache.

I tried also adding -noquicktime and -noprobe parameters (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Client_parameters) without success.
-safe makes client crash before login window appears.

UPDATE - Zi Ree reported this bug here:
VWR-657 - 1.16.0.0 crashes immediately on Linux

I can confirm this as well, with some additional information.

I can connect and even move around a bit, *sometimes*. Other times it crashes immediately. At all times, my avatar attachments were not rezzing properly. I was able to change avatars, but this didn't stop the crashes or the messed up attachments. At no time was I able to stay in world more than a minute or so before crashing.

Update! I just stayed in world for 15-20 minutes or so by *NOT FLYING*. And after that, the moment I started flying, I crashed. Will have to check it out some more later.

Update 2: A rotating object in a transparent building near the suspension bridge in Bethel is able to crash my viewer if I get close enough to see it well. It usually fills my screen with junk just before the crash. My own wings may be causing the same problem when I'm flying - I noticed strange artifacts around my avatar just before crashing from flying before.

I've enabled export LL_GL_BASICEXT=x and export LL_GL_NOEXT=x in my secondlife shell script, and while they did make differences in rendering, neither one would prevent the crashes caused by this bug.

Update 3: I find that I can fly without immediately crashing, but only if I remove my wings first. I'm wondering if this may have something to do with moving transparent objects. Still, moving around various objects causes seemingly random crashes. If it is caused by moving transparent objects, such objects can be found all over the place.

Update 4: Clearing the cache does not help. Staying clear of other objects does seem to be the best strategy to prevent crashing. Essentially this version is unusable on my system.

1.16 Crashing here too

I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 with proprietary ATI drivers and the 1.16 beta client crashes almost immediatley after the viewer loads everything up.

Do you have any flexi prims on your avatar? An update on the main blog says that crash reports may be related to viewing flexible objects. I was able to avoid crashing by removing my wings, which are flexible. I'll have to see if the other seemingly random crashes I was having are flexi-prim related.

Yes, I do... and since the beta client crashes on me immediately when it starts to display my surroundings, it's not clear that I can take my hair (and maybe skirt, depending on what I had on at the time of the snapshot) off to avoid the problem.

Right, this is a known issue - I imagine it's already fixed internally but I'll be verifying that soon on the 1.16 branch.

I can say I was able to get into the grid w/o any flex prims (after some logging in a spare Win32 box) and was on for about 30 seconds before crashing.

1.16.0.1 please.

I've verified that this is fixed on the sculpties2 branch (therefore, I expect, 1.16.0.1).

Here's looking forward to 1.16.0.1! I enjoy testing, but not when I crash every few minutes.

It's probably needless to say it now, but it seems as if flexi prims get so far out of whack that points of them are spread clear across the sim, so that if there are any flexi prims anywhere in the sim, there's a good chance that you will run across one of those points and get clobbered. I know that when I select a flexible object, the glowing lines run far into the distance. Since these objects move, this makes it even harder to avoid them.

Wow. Every few minutes? Lucky duck!

I usually crash to desktop before the screen even renders the area I'm logged into, but if I survive that I most often crash within mere seconds.

This is really a shame. For the first time ever I'm willing to put up with the painfulness of the Beta grid to look at soon-to-be-implemented features, and I find that the Beta grid isn't even stable enough to give me a full minute per login.

Somehow I managed 15 minutes the very first time, and not once since then.

[Edit] Hmmm... Just out of spite I logged in again, to SandBox Island instead of Morris, and I'm still online.... But when I tried Morris a very short time before that, CRASH!!! Sandbox Island is currently practically empty, Morris is packed with the usual Sandbox crap, including many sculpted prim experiments. I wonder if that's significant?

Well it seems to be. I should mention that I was able to work around lots of sculpted prims in Sandbox Island without crashing, but the presence (even at a distance) of flexible objects was the best predictor of an imminent crash.
