Just a heads-up: this driver is a stability update, and since SL needs all the stability it can get, I guess it affects us. http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_169.12.htmlSome points from the web page: Improved power management support with GeForce 8 GPUs. Further improved stability on some GeForce 8 GPUs. Fixed a bug that broke certain TwinView configurations with TV-OUT on GeForce 8 GPUs. Fixed a bug that could cause OpenGL to crash in certain cases, e.g. when running Counter-Strike under Wine. Further improved GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap out-of-memory handling. Fixed a bug that could result in incorrect PowerMizer state being reported. Improved nvidia-xconfig behavior when updating X configuration files without a "Module" section. Worked around a problem that caused function key presses on some Toshiba notebooks to result in system crashes. The OpenGL point looks worthwhile on its own.

The OpenGL point looks worthwhile on its own. I'm certainly checking local shops for a low-priced Counterstrike version ..

From: WiLLuMPJuH Gausman I'm certainly checking local shops for a low-priced Counterstrike version .. That was an example I expect that a buggy OpenGL will remain a buggy OpenGL even if not under Wine or within Counterstrike. But you may be that rare being whose SL does not crash in the middle of exciting and time-critical time wasting I HAVE heard of such beings...

Has anyone tried Windlight on those drivers yet? (^_^) I'm still using the old suggested drivers and I haven't had a problem, but, they're still the old drivers... It would be fun to be up to date and stable at the same time. (^_^)y

Thanks for the heads-up, as the owner of an 8 series GeForce card it certainly looks like a worthwhile update. It's already in Portage (Gentoo user here) so I'm good to go. I'll be sure update you all if I encounter any problems.

I do not expect that ALL SL crashes will go away magically because of these drivers, but every bit helps.

I use the 169 Nvidia Drivers since 169.07 and apart from being forced to use The window manager tweak "Display full screen overlay windows directly" on XFCE Xubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron, cause otherwise i get some strange horizontal line flickering when i go into full screen mode via alt+f11, i can really recommend the 169.12 drivers since it got a newer openGL version (v2.1.2) and about 5 fps more on average at the same settings. So yeah, go for it ^_^.
