no clothing, often no avatar movement

My environment:
Debian GNU/Linux unstable, Linux kernel 2.6.20, Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.86GHz, X.org, Radeon Mobility X300
Versions 1.13.0.8, 1.13.3.2, 1.14.0.0, 1.14.0.1

Problem:
After login, I get "your clothing is still downloading."
Sometimes I can't see my avatar, sometimes it's naked.
Sometimes it's on the floor on its hands and knees. There's a "Stand Up" button, but clicking it has no effect. Other times, I can move around.
Very often, I see this in the log:
WARNING: process_avatar_animation: Received animation state for unknown avatarc5852a6d-173d-4470-98b4-16f3a43cb53e

I've tried with three different viewer versions. I've tried clearing the cache. I've tried deleting the .secondlife directory. None of it makes any difference.

I have my doubts that this should be a client issue, but official SL support bounced my bug report (#745277) because I'm using Linux...
