the 32-Bit graphics issue, again

Hope I didn't overlook anything that answers this problem, although I saw a few threads touching the subject.

I have SuSE Linux 10.1 on my machine with an NVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. The Sax2 configuration tool does not offer the 32-bit color mode. Searching around for a solution, every Linux geek would only answer, what do you want that for, this is only 24-bit colors stored in 32 bits to make it run a wee bit faster because the data transfer always occurs in 32-bit chunks. They claim this mode is not offered because it's dumb and just a waste of memory. I actually support that view.

Does anybody know how to get around this? In a further step, I wonder if it would really slow down the client so much that this requirement can't be dropped. On Windoze too, I hated having to set it to 32-bit colors just because of SL. Everything else runs just fine with 24.

It works fine on 24 bit. There must be another problem. Please post output from SL.

You need to install the accelerated gfx drivers properly... Did you load glx in the xorg.conf file? Any error messages on installing the nvidia driver?

Output from /var/log/Xorg.0.log and glxinfo would be useful, and a copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Thanks for the hint, after installing the NVidia drivers it now works!
