Allrighty... I've tried editing my xorg.conf file to change it from the "nv" driver to the "nvidia" driver, but it just crashes when I do that. I keep getting a "error creating window" message... here is the text from the terminal window:

I downloaded a nvidia driver from the nvidia site, but when I try to install it it tells me that I don't have the kernel source installed on my system... even though I installed the "kernel-devel" package!! please help!

Hi there,
While this is now over a month ago, I'll go ahead and answer anyway, in case someone else wonders:
I've just installed Fedora Core 6 myself today, and the way I got the nvidia drivers installed was through the livna RPM repository. Just install the RPM at https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2006-October/msg00009.html and after that you can just install the nvidia drivers directly via the install menu. Worked perfectly for me, good luck.

You really do need the nvidia driver, not the nv one, from what I've heard. As for getting the proper nvidia driver installed, I guess it's not always straightforward, but there totally *should* be preconfigured package for it, for whatever version of Linux you're running.

Use the Livna repository, Jynx

Akiba is correct, the easiest way by far is to use the livna repository. In fact, I have the same exact nvidia card you do, and I am now able to run SL even with Beryl/Compiz.
