For your amusement: If you look closely that's a KMajongg game. I was playing it when I went and started up SecondLife. I'm going to guess it's because I manually set my GraphicsCardMemorySetting to 256mb to better match my NVidia Quatro FX 4000 (which I *think* is 256mb...). I haven't tried to fix this yet since it's not really annoying (this isn't my primary computer - I essentially use it to chat in SL while at work). I suspect that maybe the OS is using up some of the video card's ram, and that's what I get for tweaking the GraphicsCardMemorySetting

Strictly speaking, this shouldn't happen even with wacky video memory preferences. Out of interest, what X server are you using - Xgl, Xorg, etc?

Hah, likely caused by not enough memory and a bit pounded frame buffer. Hopefully with new releases of Xorg it will get better and perhaps with new nVidia drivers.

This is no Linux specific issue. I had that happen on my Notebook using Windows XP on an Intel i915 chipset. I guess it's grabbed from the video memory for baking and then sent up by the client. I have seen it happening quite often to other people, too. One time it was so bas, I could not get my outfit back to looking normal. I had to clear all caches, set avatar composure limit all the way down and wearing lots of different clothes to clean up the mess. An hour later I was my old self again

- Go to Preferences - Go to Graphic Details - Turn off 'Avatar Vertex Program' - Apply and OK. Or just OK. This helps a LOT of problems. If you cannot select the AVP, then I don't have any other ideas, unfortunately.

Also look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log for how much memory your NVidia card really has. The NVidia drivers will print out how much the card has. It's quite useful in that reguard.
