I need install help with the graphics light omvviewer. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 – Hardy Heron, pre-installed on a netbook (traveling). I did successfully install the Open Metaverse packages to Synaptic Manager per instructions of Robin Cornelius, and then I further installed to my OS. I note that files are located in /usr/share/ These are the packages I installed: One. Skin textures and misc. data; omvviewer 123 artwork. Two. Datafiles for Open Metaverse Viewer Three. Skin textures and misc. data. Four. Static datafiles
The problem is that I can't figure out how to initiate the program. There is no launcher in Applications < Games and omvviewer from command line fails. I'm hoping the error is simple! I have written to Robin, but I haven't had a response. Thanks for any help.

From: kurt7D8 Avon I need install help with the graphics light omvviewer. Do you want to install omvviewer (a fork of the official client, so displaying SL in 3D) or omvviewer-light (a 2D-only viewer, only displaying maps, inventory, chat, IM etc. thus running better on low end hardware like netbooks)? From: kurt7D8 Avon These are the packages I installed: One. Skin textures and misc. data; omvviewer 123 artwork. Two. Datafiles for Open Metaverse Viewer Three. Skin textures and misc. data. Four. Static datafiles
You shouldn't have to worry about these packages. They might or might not be required by the packages named below. If they are required they should be dragged in automagically by APT. You'll want to install either the packages named "omvviewer" (for the 1.22 version of the 3D viewer) or "omvviewer-1-23" (for the 1.23 version of the 3D viewer; see http://omvviewer.byteme.org.uk/ubuntu_binary.shtml) If you want omvviewer-light (the 2D viewer), you'll probably have to manually fetch it from http://omvviewer-light.byteme.org.uk/binary.shtml. If you have MONO installed, omvviewer-light probably runs out-of-the-box without being installed system-wide.
