I just "misuse" this forum as group IMs don't get emailed hen people are offline. And I guess some or all of the Members of Free Software Group read here. I am searching for a good meeting place.
My ideas so far:
* It should be a more public place (some traffic)
* It should be something like a cafe
* It should be used for other discussions, too
* It should be possible to announce events
* The place should be able to develop
So it should be on the watchlist of some residents and it should attract more outsiders that like to come by quick.
Right now I have some choises on my list:
1.) Millpond Sim has some nice places. This is a very new place (opened Sunday) that was moved from another sim here. They have Shakespeare & Company bookstore and much more. This has not so much traffic yet, but i met the creators a few times and could think this to be a good place
2.) Ethnographia. I have attended a difgitalc culture meeting there last week. So this is already used. Had no further contact though to check if good opportunity.
3.) Jai's GNUbie Store. Jai Nomad is officer of GNU Wave architects group - there would be some work to be done to have a meeting place there but maybe a good place because he is pro GNU/GPL software and his group too.
4.) Maybe somewhere at Creative Commons HQ. I don't see a good place their, though.
I don't want to use a public sandbox or some remote place because there it is more unlikely that strangers come by.
From my view the meetings should be not so much a "group meeting" (although it will be that at the beginning) but an event for discussing free software issues. That means: People should eb able to ask questions about free software or attendens could talk about what is important about free software - or how to promote it (in SL).
Ah BTW: Somebody who like to become officer ( I renamed it to "promoter"

For me "free software" is like being the core part Linux. And I see this group as a possibility to discuss the differences or the pros and cons of the free software attitude towards software and software development.
The goals should be to find our own compromises about what is important or what is not. What i would think should generally not be discussed in length are problems with the Linux client. i think there this forum, the Alpha Client group or the Linux meeting is a better place.
I would also think that we could discuss how free software (like GPLed scripts) could be handled in SL or what free software means for and inside of SL.
Any comments welcome.

PS: I am not going to make a poll about meeting point, yet. I will wait till we have a more clear view.
