I'm kinda new to Linux, and am running SuSe 10.1. When I'm in second life, there are times that I want to run videos that people have on televisions, and as of yet have been unable to. I am running SL Linux version 1.16.0.6

Do I need to have something installed to run these videos? Could someone give me detailed instructions on installing it?

Is this even a feature of the current Linux version of SL? Any plans to release it?

Thanks

short answer: no, QuickTime movie playback (and movie recording) are currently not supported.

There is an external workaround, Turin

Follow these instructions:
From: someone

1. While in Second Life, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D to activate the Client and Server menus.

2. Click on Client>View Admin Options.

3. Now whenever you're on a movie-enabled plot, click on the top center of the screen to bring up the "About Land" dialog box.

4. Go to the Media tab, and pass the Music URL to your favorite external movie player(Xine, MPlayer, Totem, etc.). Then enjoy!

so the short answer is no... is there another answer then copying a URL and watching it externally? is there a way to watch it in SL?

Until Tofu Linden finalizes the GStreamer-based implementation for Quicktime, we're stuck with the workaround I described(unless someone beats Tofu to it, given that the SL client is open source now).
