Hello, I'm an italian user. I have a problem with the release updates. I have Linux ubuntu operating system. I downloaded second life, everything works. But every time I download a new second life release, the new release does not replace the old one. A new second life file is created on my desktop, and the old one stays there. The new second life file does not have the sl icon, it has the form of an ordinary file, with a few other files inside it. So to log in I have to open the file and click on the file second life inside. Everything works, I can play. The problem is: how can I get a regular second life icon on my desktop?
I hope I made myself clear to you, I'm sorry for my Italian-English. Hope I 'll get some useful answers about this.
Thank you!!

Which download did you use and how did you install it? If you used the tar.bz2 archive from http://get.secondlife.com or http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php and just unpacked that, then this is the expected behavior, because the unpacked directories have different names. It's also useful in case you want to compare different versions. If you don't want to keep the old version, just delete it's folder. (Because it was just unpacked and not installed into the system, no de-installation is required.) From: Corinne Mertel The new second life file does not have the sl icon, it has the form of an ordinary file, with a few other files inside it. How did you get that icon in the first place? Maybe you used some different way to install your first SL version (like Robin Cornelius' omvviewer). Anyway, if you didn't keep the old version, just right-click the icon, choose "Properties" (or similar - might depend on Desktop manager) from the context menu, and change the executable path to the path of the new version's secondlife script. If you kept the old version, you might want to copy the icon before, so you can also start that old version.
