Hi all. I've recently started a Linux vlog on YouTube, and I been trying to successfully record SL using gtk-recordMyDesktop. It works, but the defaults seem to be less than adequate as the video looks like I'm suffering major lag(though I will admit recording does cause a performance hit anyway). So here's my question: What could I do to improve the quality of the video recording? Could raising the fps help? Please help!

A dual-core (or better) system, so encodes have a processor to use instead of competing for space. Lots of memory, lots of disk space, forget H.264.

The goal is to get a decent dual-core so you won't have cpu-heavy tasks fighting over the cpu. Linux right now doesn't schedule tasks very well. When the kernel hits 2.6.23 with the CFS scheduler, it'll get alot better from what I've seen on Kernel Trap. Ether way, SL being single-CPU bound will leave room for the codec in the other core -- as long as it's a fast codec. Properly tuned MPEG-4/XVid will do it. H.264 requires both cores and an optimized version of the codec to even get to real-time (Handbrake 0.9 on a Mac Mini, for example).
