Hi, first post although im a regular user.

Iv just upgraded to Linux (currently using Hardy Heron LTS), my system specs are AMD X2 4400+, NVIDIA 8500 GT and 3Gb of RAM, using the restricted drivers from NVIDIA (latest release).

In terms of performance i don't notice anything different from windows, graphics etc...its all smooth and pleasant, now...streaming Audio its ok..and it streams most of the content but, when i try to stream video...watch a movie on SL it crashes.

Can anyone tell me if this is a problem related to the SL version on Linux or is there something im missing like a package or so?

I do have the restricted codecs pack installed.

Im sorry if the question is noobish but i didn't saw any similar doubt answered before here on the forums or the internet.

Thank you for your time and patience reading this and i hope some of you can help me.

Cheers
Peace Howlett

I'd say your using the 64 bit version of Ubuntu, movies crash out immediately with this version, no one seems to be showing much interest in it either, even though a growing number of people are switching to 64 bit computing.

If you don't have the 64 bit version it could be likely you don't have the Gstreamer plugins installed from the repository (Good, bad, and ugly).

There is a 64 bit version of the viewer, created by someone here, it worked amazingly well, even movies, but with the release of Hardy it has remained broken for me, it seems it don't like the new pulseaudio sound server, and locks down all sound, so that gstreamer (which plays music and movie sounds) don't work, even other apps like rhythmbox won't work, maybe it just needs correct configuration with pulseaudio.
