I want to second that "thank you!" The only thing that was keeping me from playing was the fact that there was only a windows client. Thank you soooo much for the linux client!!!

Third that! Although there are some quirks to iron out, I am really pleased to see a Linux client. This is not only important for Second Life, but for Linux too. :)

I need to say Thank You too!

Despite its weaknesses, the Linux Client is good enough that I only go to windows if I have to, now. Fantastic, for an Alpha version!

I've been waiting for a long time to try Second Life. Now I can finally join and start coding things. Awesome. :)

Just another thank you :)

And thanks for the Mac client too!

Both will make my computing life a lot more pleasant :D

It may seem, when analysed, that creating clients for such a small user percentage holds no profit - but it's nice to see that Linden Labs have other values. As well as hopefully realising that going to such detail shows that you're committed to making SL better than just "everything else" - standing out from the crowd in this way and showing your attention to detail are the kind of actions that put your company on top (and thus very profitable!) - people *love* good, honest care for 100% of your customer base... rather than 98%... even if they're part of the 98.

Keep at it!

(psst - support ATI! They're quite a large chunk too...)

I too thank you for making the linux client. It consistantly runs better than the windows client (for me). I would stick with it alone if only sound was enabled. In the meanwhile, I'll do my best to break the client for you.

Ditto on the thank you. Second Life was the last thing I was regularly booting windows for, and about once a day I'd find myself debating between booting windows to hang out with friends in SL or staying in linux. Now I don't have to choose, and I'm THRILLED! And major props for making it so distro friendly, and easy to install!

I downloaded the linux client (I run gentoo, vid card is ati radeon9700aiw), and was amazed at how well it ran, considering that it's only alpha code. Despite a few quirks, it runs well enough that I will no longer have to boot into windows to enjoy SL!

Keep up the great work!

Hugs, thanks and kisses to LindenLab... a Linux client might be "for geeks only" at first, but the idea is excellent... and it is guaranteed to bring alot of advanced coders, enthousiasts and just people interested in having a *normal* game under Linux to those who run SL on a daily basis =)
thanks!

very true, the idea of bringing more linux programmers into the scene is an awesome prospect for second life at large.

...heck, i don't even run GNU/linux, but add my voice to the chorus of thanks for all the hard work which i'm sure has gone into this effort...it's only through supporting the diverse ecosystem by which the 'net itself has been developed that SL can grow into a truly open and universal platform...kudos!..

...any chance of ultimately opening up the client source?..i'm sure i won't be the only person in a couple years' time dearly wanting to run the GNU/linux client on PPC architecture...

Hi Guys! I paid and played with second life months ago and had to leave it because of all the reboots. I've tried the linux clinet - and it seems great - thank you for the effort!

I had never used Second Life before. I created my first account because of the public release of the Linux alpha. This game is great, thanks Linden!

Thank you so much for releasing a Linux client!

I love Second Life, but I love Linux more. Now the two can join me in a great orgy of wild, relentless joy.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I just installed Ubuntu and the SL client. I am very very pleased with what I am seeing. The lag is minimal and it looks great! There are a few bugs, but I'm sure over time things will improve! Thank you so much for a linux client!!

Many thanks from my side, too! The linux client is great, and the bugs will get ironed out sooner or later, I'm pretty sure!

All in all, thumbs up!
