2006-07-16T00:36:32Z This can be because you somehow have multiple copies running, or your system incorrectly thinks a file is open. If this message persists, restart your computer and try again. If it continues to persist, you may need to completely uninstall Second Life and reinstall it.

You need to unpack the SL tar.bz2 file with tar -jvxf instead of a graphical unpacker; it looks like your unpacker has the bug that stops it creating empty directories (that SL needs).

Anything is possible, this is Lunux :D

Do what Hello Toonie says, see if it works. Understanding what is going on comes later ;) , and MUCH later, WHY it is going on :p

Err, 2 things:

1. there's no reason you should be root to run that. Never run anything as root unless it's absolutely necessary. Take not the Name of Root in vain!

Seriously, it's a security hole.

2. Being root doesn't magically make bugs disappear from programs. The empty directories not appearing is a bug. :P
