The gimp for textures and clothing - see the design forum - lots of good tutorials.
www.qavimator.org for making character animations
You can't (afaik) create prim models outside the world yet, there is a a rather inefficient 3d importer, not recomended.

Biggest tip is dont forget the preivew grid for testing uploads.

Well, maybe I am wierd, but I tryed to make some objects and that ingame editor sucks. I was programming in vrml long time ago, it is not possible to define object just by writing code? I was looking around wiki, but found nothing

Wow. If you think that it's going to be more pleasant to 'write' your objects in VRML than to use the groovy in-game editor, you.... might be alone. :D

Though yes, you can programmatically create objects -- it's just so much of a pain that you probably don't want to.

Great, can you send me any link howto do it? VRML was quite easy when you learn it, I afraid this LS will be worse.

Inefficient eh? Hopefully you're not talking about prim.blender... If so come stop by the libsecondlife HQ sometime :-)

Eddy: I think nin was talking about the old 3d-model -> prim converter that made a prim for every visible poly and then rotated/moved them so that it emulated the original shape. Horribly inefficient.

LSL isn't a scene description 'language' like VRML -- it really is a (somewhat clunky) programming language. You really don't want to create content in it unless it's something dreary to construct in any other way but algorithmic, i.e. fractals. What you may want to do is write/use a utility that takes a notecard full of prim descriptions and rezzes them (I don't remember the name of such a utility).

But no, really what you need to do is probably to learn how to use the integrated modelling tools and be happy. :)
