Yeah, after conditioning us to think that notice means the version we're using now won't work, it's kind of dumb to post a new version before the login version detector (or whatever it is) will let it be used. That is, without telling us not to use it before such-and-such a time and date.
(Yes, this means I did the same thing and had to revert to the rc version I had been using.)

<RANT> Fiddled with the voice settings. Cannot detect a common Sound Blaster in a fully correct working Linux / GNU - environment. Great. I already know what is coming to us. Expect to get lied to more over each release ... Linux client is supposed to have working voice (again). Memories , memories .. has it almost been a year since it's first untrueful announcement ? Goddammit .. almost like the days of Nazi-propaganda are back ... "Ve hef Wunderwaffen. You just vait end zee !!!" And i vait .. and vait .. and vait .. vait a lil' more .. vait .... .. shit.. this ain't progress ... it's just more declanation of a good technology that was supposed to give a better virtual environment to ALL ... You just won't listen , LL , will you ? .... AND NO I WILL NOT POST IN THE JIRA!!! </RANT>

It's frustrating, to have the releases jacked with.
What was really annoyning, is th1.19.0.0 has native linux voice, I loaded it on my system and tested it.
For the few hours I was able to use the native voice it worked PERFECT !!! On my system (suse 10.3, Dell laptop E1505).
Now back to the wine freaking soloution.
I hate candy being taken away.
LL GET 1.19.0.0 UP AND RUNNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please.

Please. If you downloaded and unpacked that 1.19 release, all you have to do is copy the SLVoice binary over to the 1.18.6 folder, then copy the four lib files from 1.19's lib folder (libalut.so, libopenal.so.1, libortp.so, and libvivoxsdk.so) over to 1.18.6's lib folder, get rid of all the windows/wine stuff, and voila! You have native Linux voice. They're the same "blob" some of us have already been using for a while now. Adamas

Thanks for the info, I had started the other day looking into using the native SLVoice client and the lib(s) that I needed to copy from 1.19.0.0 to get this to work in 1.18.6.4 (hehehe after I was done venting on the 1.19.0.0 mess), rl sidetracked me. Saves me the time.
Question: Where did others get the SLVoice blob, my first exposure was in the LL's accidental release of 1.19.0.0
Appreciate it.

Asriazh Frye posted in the "Voice Support for the Linux Client" thread this link:
http://secondlife.com/developers/opensource/downloads/2008/01/slviewer-linux-libs-release-r78272.tar.gz
(Linux voice is still there, LL hasn't taken it away, they just took the 1.19 release away because they are having trouble with it.)
The binary and libs are in this subfolder within the tarball: ~/linden/indra/newview/vivox-runtime/i686-linux

From: Karack Uborstein Question: Where did others get the SLVoice blob The blob's availability was probably first mentioned here: https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/sldev/2008-January/007959.html by Soft Linden on the SLDev mailing list. Building from SVN worked fine, except that I had to create an (empty) text file for README-linux-voice.txt which was missing.

Thanks, everyone.
I had not been paying much attention to that thread, as I figured native voice would not happen until 1.19.0.0. (Yes I know the voice is still active).
Downloaded the blob in the link just to have if needed.
