I got to make 1.18.1 stable as 1.18.0 was. How? easy I had to edit the tunned xorg.conf and to comment anything that worked fine and speeded performance of the 1.18.0 client.

# Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
# Option "EnablePageFlip" "1"
# Option "ColorTiling" "1"
# Option "AGPMode" "2"
# Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
# Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
# Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "true"
# Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS"
# Option "SubPixelOrder" "NONE"
# Option "DynamicClocks" "on"

The result of all of this is a drop of FPS to the 50% of what could be achieved with 1.18.0. With all of this commented the client is stable as a rock (as it was before...). It is strange how enabling ANY of these options makes the SL hang...

The system is:

Laptop Compaq Evo N410c (1,2Ghz - 1Gb RAM) with Ati Radeon M6 LY (same as 7000) with 16MB of DDR Ram.
Fedora Core 7 with KDE.

It's the ATI drivers in your case. ATI's drivers are very twitchy.

Hi,

Note that I use the radeon driver that comes with DRI/Mesa as part of x.org, in theory, according to x.org 2D & 3D acceleration is stable for my card. They are not the propietary drivers that can be got directly from Ati for Radeons 8500 onwards. In any case those options could be enabled without risk in the previous SL clients. Moreover I can enable all those options and play OpenGL games like GL-117 or Torcs flawlessly. Something is making the SL client very sensitive...

regards,

Ruben
