Still crashing every time with 58185

again, same crash with 58100... crash just come in world.... i try all thing like 58100 treads.. here my log....

Yes, this error is really stupid.

But I think you know the workaround already. In case you don't and for others who stumble upon this topic:

Do a
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
before starting secondlife.

And please: Don't start a new topic for this bug every time a new version comes out which still has this bug. I love to just subscribe to one topic and be always up to date and provide new info at known place. Thats better for you and me and everyone else.

The release notes for 58185 are wrong - the startup crash fix only just got QA'd so isn't in this release.

This does not fix anything for me... and beside, my system is configured for fr_FR with iso8859-15 as the fonts.
UTF-8 sucks (because it doubles the memory used to store text and/or the processing needed to deal with text), and it is only useful for non-Western languages. Beside, my prefered (and beloved) window manager (sawfish) hates UTF-8 (read: it plain doesn't work with UTF-8 as the fonts), so I'm not going to switch to UTF-8 any time soon...

Is the "LogLock::LogLock: failed to get mutex for log" also fixed? I get this now and then, too, and crash - and no crash log is sent afterwards - so it could easily slip through the cracks :(

Funny... I came here to post the fix I found, and I stumble on your reply... :-) Well, LC_ALL=C does work, but it's probably an overkill... For me, the fix is:
export LC_NUMERIC=en (or C)

Why ?... Well, because on my distro, all the LC_* varaiables are set to my language. You can find them in /etc/sysconfig/i18n, and this file reads for me as:

LC_ADDRESS=fr_FR
LC_COLLATE=fr_FR
LC_NAME=fr_FR
LC_NUMERIC=fr_FR
LC_MEASUREMENT=fr_FR
LC_TIME=fr_FR
LANG=fr_FR
LC_IDENTIFICATION=fr_FR
LC_MESSAGES=fr_FR
LC_CTYPE=fr_FR
LC_TELEPHONE=fr_FR
LC_MONETARY=fr_FR
LC_PAPER=fr_FR
SYSFONT=lat0-16

LANG got a lower priority to LC_NUMERIC when dealing with decimal numbers encoding, so when LC_NUMERIC is set to an non-English locale, it forces the programs to use something else than a point (".";) for the separator between the integer part and the decimal part... In French, the separator is a comma (",";)... Thus the error while decoding the XML files...
