Did you know that on Windows you can hide the viewer UI (User Interface) by hitting CTRL ALT F1? That's really cool, because you see the SL world uncluttered by menus and floating windows - and that makes your SL experience even more realistic and immersive.
BUT this can't be accomplished on Linux because all distributions reserve that shortcut for a different use - that is, virtual terminals. In 2007, the shortcut was different (that was CTRL ALT 1), and this feature worked perfectly - I loved it. Then it got changed (why!?...).
This feature can also be enabled (that is: the UI can be hidden) using the Advanced menu. The problem is that by hiding UI, menu obviously disappear - so you can't make them re-appear anymore .. because you don't know where to click
;D
Unfortunately, this shortcut can't be changed with a simple modify to the Advanced menu (which is instead possible for others menus). You need to get the viewer sources, modifiy a file, then compile (which is somewhat difficult for many users - even if this is going to get easier soon) - and you have to do it again when you want to update your viewer.
SO: please VOTE FOR THESE JIRA ISSUES, because patches for this problem are already available (thanks Jacek Antonelli!!) and we just need to pressure LL so that they include them in the official code:

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2896
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2947
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7974
I suggest to vote them all, and ask your friends (they don't need to be on Linux) to do the same. It appears to me that votes count, even if it's only one of many factors that lead to bug resolution.
PS
Am I clear? I'm not english mother tongue and I'm not using the dictionary ;P
PS-2
By the way I think that the SL shortcut should be changed - not the Linux one. Ask any Linux user - it doesn't depend on using KDE vs. Gnome vs. [...] - it's an ancient, super-standardized shortcut that all distributions use.
