Alpha used to be moderately usable - not now

I have to ask myself what I am paying for these days. 6 months ago I could pretty much do what I wanted to do with the alpha - encouraged me to buy land, build, etc.

Didn't expect an alpha which was more-or-less working to evolve into this mess. Is anyone comparing test results to release objectives? ARE there release objectives?

I'm not angry, just disappointed. I'll try SL again in a year or two - if the Linux client is still available by then. I'll bet 10 to 1 it won't be available in 6 months.

Have fun, guys.

We can't fix problems we don't know about. Please take some time to describe the specific problems you are having, instead of generalised ranting.

See the various messages regarding the latest alpha baseline drop - in my particular case I get progressively heavier disk thrashing and lag, until the client, and then the system nearly stops responding. Takes minutes to get to the 'quit' menu option, then takes more minutes to actually quit. Happens even if I'm just walking around. SL alpha client is the only software which does this to my system. Once client has cleared memory, system returns to normal.

Running in an HP Pavilion Pentium 4 with generous memory (512 meg), NVIDIA running latest NVIDIA driver, Kubuntu 7.04, connected via a DSL connection.

I started SL in November 2006 and have seen a more stable client every release.
1.17.0.12 never crashed and shows good perfoormance.

1.17.1 was unusable - performance droped down to 10%

1.17.2 shows good performance again - but after 30 Minutes the client uses 1.6GB ram. In 1.17.0.12 it used 1,2GB after 5 hours.
The away/idle-switch is broken - not acceptable on a systen used not exclusve for SL.

with 1.17.2, I can't even login to SL. See my problem as described in this thread: /263/d9/194367/1.html

There are so many problems LL just don't listen.

Over 6 month in development of gstreamer video and still no beta/firstlook/whatever build.

There is just no LL support from LL here.
