I run FC4, x64. SL on that machine would definitely reduce my need for windows.

I have an AMD64 on SuSE 10.0. SL runs great in 32 bit mode.

All you need is one or two little enhancements (found in other threads) and the 32 bit compatibility libs. If you can't get it to run, I'll be happy to help out.

It's working fine under Gentoo/AMD64. You do need the compatability libs.

Another set for Gentoo on AMD64. You do need to compile up the compatibility libs. Best way to do that is to emerge mplayer-bin, which causes them to be compiled up.

Another happy Gentoo amd64 user running SL fine.

I think builds for different arcs would have to wait till the linux client is out of alpha at the very soonest, it does also depend on how 64bit friendly the main code base already is.

Same for me, the client came straight up on Gentoo amd64, I didn't need to do anything at all for it to run. Subsequently I poked the settings file a bit to get it to see all the memory on the nVidia 6600GT card, but nothing else.

In case it helps, of the 29 dynamically loaded dependencies, only 6 were mapped to 32-bit libraries by the link loader on my amd64 box:

libm.so.6 => /lib32/libm.so.6 (0x55d25000)
libc.so.6 => /lib32/libc.so.6 (0x55d52000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib32/libdl.so.2 (0x55e6b000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib32/libpthread.so.0 (0x55e6f000)
librt.so.1 => /lib32/librt.so.1 (0x55ec1000)
libcrypt.so.1 => /lib32/libcrypt.so.1 (0x55ed5000)

I'm not really sure whether this applies identically to other systems though.

Does it actually use all the memory on your card?

Well there is a notacable difference before and after fiddling with the ini file so I would say yes it does. However it dosen't res the world up Like the windows client.

the reason i ask is because mine shows the greyed 256 button selected, but i still have to mouse over textures to resolve them, every time i look at them, over and over again.

The Cache gets cleared every time SL ends, in Linux.

The cache algorithm works (since 1.8 at least) on a combination of Graphics Memory AND Main memory. Since the SL Linux client KNOWS you only have 1 MB of main memory, cache is constantly being emptied to prevent memory overfill problems . It is still in the Linux cache area, though, so a mouse over gets it back pretty quick. I right click wildly when I get to a new place, and the main stuff has downloaded - I get bandwidths of 1.5 Mbit at times!

As the saying goes, its not a bug, its state of the art... lol

Setting your Graphics Memory according to the list, forces at least the graphics memory to be used, instead of just 16 MB. This slows the "cache protecting" algorithm a bit, I guess....
