Textures could prove a problem for alpha client users.. Do uploads have to be done during the competition?

There is nothing stopping you from working out your build in a sandbox between now and the meeting and uploading any texture magic you might need.

Just remember - its a competition judged by your peers :)

But you don't come to the meetings either, so don't worry about it.

Ever been to a real-life LUG? Since when does half the stuff there have anything to do with Linux? Outside of the formal, organized topics and such, it's about Linux users hanging out together. Our local LUG holds a LAN party every month where we come together and play games, write code, etc., mostly under Linux, but Mac and PC users come as well. I mean, we do install fests and information booths as well, but it's the informal events that I make a point to *never* miss (I've missed several SL LUG meetings because of them, actually!)

IMO, the purpose of a LUG is threefold (could be more, but these come to mind):

getting Linux to The People (spreading the word)
helping The People with Linux (tech support / installfests / etc.)
developing a stronger sense of community within the community (hanging out)

So, yeah. That reply got a lot longer than I anticipated. It would seem I feel very strongly about this :P

And exactly that is in EVERY announcement of the LUG meetings :D

Yay, my first LUG! Anyone try out the new kororra xgl live cd? :D

Get it if you haven't seen it yet ... instant orgasm. Although SL ran slow for me after I installed to a new partition, so I'm running SL off mepis till I figure out why it's running so slow on kororra.

Search this forum for xgl and you'll have your answer. XGL / Composite stuff and OpenGL games don't play very nice yet, because XGL is still so alpha.

I did not really notice any slow down when running XGL + SL, the main issues was all the fonts would start corrupting. It also appears XGL won't report 32bit or something - trying to wine the Windows client fails - although I still need to try the old gfx patch.
