Disabling Textures?

I'm trying to minimize the load Second Life causes on my computer, and noticed that there's an option Client -> Rendering -> Disable Textures. However, after checking this option textures are still being loaded and displayed. Is there something I'm missing here?

Any other suggestions to turn Second Life as ugly as possible (that is, lightweight) are also welcome.

(And yes, I have searched around the forum)

I'm not sure about this option, but if you mean "load" as in CPU cycles, you can just change the niceness of SL when you run it from the command line (see other recent posts about this). If you mean you need more FPS, try enabling AGP (if it is not already done): see "Testing the new graphics features" thread. Also, turn everything low and make sure you have sun and moon only (not local lighting).
