At random times, and sometimes very quick while other times fine for awhile, my cpu usage will go high enough that it interfers with the framerate resulting in 0.2fps at times while normal fps is around 40. If SL is closed at this time and the processes are checked, Xorg is taking all of it. Flipping over to a terminal and restarting gdm fixes it.
I have a 2ghz system with a NVidia 6800 GT card. The video drivers are the 100.14.19 version. I modified the secondlife file to export LL_GL_NOEXT=x but it has not improved.
Ideas?

that gfx card is ancient samuel, there are also later drivers available. I recently installed the 9600Gt from my 6800 Gt and al i will say is...............wow........
Its not relative to linux so much, more of a general gfx issue, wind down ya settings and go for low spec if you want the fps to climb a bit
Hope this helps

Trying version 173.14.05. I'll post back if there is continued trouble.

Well, within that short period of time I am already showing the same issues. Yes I know the gfx card is older but the new driver with everything turned down will easily run at 40fps then for no reason, sometimes quickly, sometimes an hour, drops to 2fps or less and wont ever climb back up. Nothing is running in the background. Different sims react differently.

Try using v1.19.0.5: with an old graphic card, there is no point in using the windlight renderer anyway.

Same issue still. I'm going to attempt to compile SL though. If I can then I'm going to do some internal debugging of what area is taking too long to process causing this delay on the system.
