Hi,

I'm finding that the latest RC (v 1.19.1.2) crashes frequently.

Am I alone, or are others experiencing problems with this release, too?

Any specific error messages?

I'm getting quite a few invalid free() on double linked lists, with back traces that seem a bit random. Looks like there is a wild pointer somewhere that seems to trash things from time to time. None the wiser to a specific cause however.

The new one has a serious memory leak. In the space of twenty minutes it had used up all of my ram (1G) and nearly all of my swap space.

I went back to the release viewer.

I heard that too.... but i have had it running for about 12 hours now and top is still reporting it using 29% of my 2G memory (up from about 25% this morning) but that's me... i always seem not to have many of the issues people report.

This version hasn't crashed for me however it runs very slow and takes forever for everything to rezz in, and lots of things still look grey, no textures.

If you play with mobile camera, zoomming out often it start to waste memory. Expecialy if you have high draw distance. In 10 minutes it take all 2 gb of memory and start to swap in my system (Dell Inspiron 1520).

Try it and let me know if you can reproduce it.

To me RC (v 1.19.1.2) has NOT significantly more memory leaks than RC (v 1.19.1.1) but its too early to tell in general.

*hm* i dont think it did crash more often than usual, during my tests, because they had been to short. I mainly have two problems: Shoutcast Sound is ugly - even 128kbps streams sound like 16kbps. And this might be related to my ATI9250 graphic card. SL does not show any sky, clouds or similar things anymore. I hope that this is not a feature of the next version (dont show anything, if SL thinks the graphic card is to old) because the ATI9250 is still the only card with a 100% working open source OpenGL driver. So for Linux purists, the ATI9250 is the only card that offers any open source 3d accelleration at all.

I think this is what's happening to me. I do a lot of camera-ing around, and that swap filled up fast.

RC (v 1.19.1.2) is crashing alot more frequently for me, also a few hard lockups since using it.
but alot of it I blame on my underpowered machine...

OK, I set the draw distance to max, zoomed out... and after 10 min the memory usage went down. :-) this is after running for 13.5 hours.

as a side... I have been wondering why i seem to have a lot less problems than other people and the only thing i can think of is i built my system. so no junky OEM powersupply, and i have a ton of cooling, giant heatsink on the cpu, all the cabling is tucked out of they way, and so on. So i think a lot of the problems are heat or powersupply related. (but that's just a wild guess).

So there's some memory leack related to mobile camera. I hope LL will fix it soon. Tofu, do you need some help to troubleshoot it or you can reproduce it easily?

This one (RC3) fills up the swap just like RC2 did. Nothing fixed there!

Hi,

All I really know at this point is that while running the successor, 1.19.1.3 I still can only stay online for much less than an hour before the viewer just vanishes.

Looking at the internal issue-tracker, this leak seems to be known (not Linux-specific - seems to hit Vista users particularly hard for some reason) and devs are investigating.

Out of interest, since bumping my openjpeg to latest openjpeg SVN, my crash rate and leak rate has dropped by a huge amount. But what i see may be unrelated to the "main line" viewer anyway.

Considering there is a know bug/leak however that also effects vista, the blog says that RC4 may go golden, i assume this bug is only effecting quit a small sub set of people with particular hardware or some other "common" factor? I still blame jpeg code paths but can't prove anything yet.

I just used rc4 for an extended period of time, several hours. These are what I found:

1. It doesn't seem to be crashing like rc3 did. (OpenSUSE 10.3, 32bit)

2. It fills up swap a bit too much (75 to 80%) for my comfort. (1G RAM)

3. It froze up three or four times for what seems like 30 seconds to more than a minute. This is almost a crash, and it is worrisome.

4. It renders Windlight better than any of the previous Windlight-capable viewers. Clearly, this part of the development is on the right track.

5. That bug in voice that had the left channel coming out of my right earpiece and vice versa has been fixed. I can now easily figure out which direction the person speaking is located.

Keep up the good work!

I hate to sound like a broken record, but 1.19.1.4 is the same.

For reference, 1.19.0.5 seems fine.

I was online for more than four hours and transported to several different high-lag sims. I also played extensively with mouselook. The worst that happened was an occasional non-crash freeze-up that released after a time and then went back to normal.

My experiences with previous RC's and Windlight has been terrible. This version actually worked with less of the irritating, the annoying and the frustrating. On top of that, voice worked beautifully.

And it never crashed.

It's not the same.

A Couple Of Issues on 64 bit SUSE
04-01-2008 00:24
0.5 was buggy as heck, im guessing from the loggs it was some serious packet loss errors, mainly to do with handshakes, but it didnt record them as packet loss's.

Ive only been playing with .1.4 for about an hour but alot of my issues have been resolved. The only real issue im having is with sound. I cannot hear streaming music on land.
