Hi,

I've tried the WindLight-version and it looks FABULOUS!!!

Suse 10.2 X86_64
nVidia 7600GT
Intel Duo Core 6400
2Gb mem.

But after a few minutes I received the following error:

Yes, skies and water renders so much more nicely and realistic. Some buildings, however, seem a bit more cartoonish to me. Perhaps it's because they weren't designed with windlight in mind, and lack subtle the subtle tones and shifts that windlight brings out.

However ....

The Linux viewer, for me, crashes with amazing regularity. Sometimes all I have to do is TP, or cross a border, and sometimes even just turn, and down she goes. I get all kinds of crazy sounds too, whirrings and pops and squeals, and sometimes this corresponds to crashes.

Perhaps I need a beefier video card (I only have a GeForce 7800 GS with 512mb vram).

I had major problems with the sky - I turned off atmospheric shaders, and left everything else on (at max...), and it's been fine (or as fine as the regular viewer :D )

I also find this viewer is very buggy, it has crashed a lot more on me then any of the other ones.

2GB Ram
Geforce 7400

Some times is crashes at the "pre-cache stage" or just closes when trying to log in.

WindLight Viewer Rocks!
11-17-2007 13:56
Wow, this is totally unexpected.
The WindLight Viewer works better than anyother viewer for me!
No joke, things get rezzed better and faster. I notice a little improvement in the image quality, but its a humble ATI Xpress 1150 in my notebook. I've used it for the whole day today with only one lock up. Ubuntu Gutsy x8_64 here. And I did comment the #export LL_GL_BASICEXT=x and change the driver class for ATI Xpress from 0 to 3 in the gpu_list.
Works great! And finally a friendly ONE SCREEN video setup tab!
With it at minimum details I get much faster fps then the regular viewer, and greater visual quality.

Thank you Lindens!

Windlight worked ok... though I had an issue. If I left the atmospheric effects on they looked awesome standing still, but if I moved around the sky seemed to have trouble drawing fast enough, and I'd get big chunks of black skies. It produced an almost flickering effect. Turning off the effect cleared the issue, though also got rid of the compelling reason to use the new client over 1.18.3.5+nicolaz which has worked wonderfully for me.
I tried adjusting all the other settings in the hope that perhaps my card just wasn't keeping up or something, but to no avail. A shame, too. I *really* liked the windlight effects.

System specs:
Pentium Duo 2160 OC'd at 2.4GHz
Asus P5N-E
4x1GB DDR2-800
EVGA GeForce 8600GT 256MB
Fedora 7, 2.6.23.1-21.fc7PAE kernel
Nvidia 100.14.19 driver

Windlight Linux Great!
11-21-2007 11:58
I have benn trying the windlight under linux and windows, same hardware see signature. The linux version works great! Vanishes now and then, but then my hardware could be strange.

Under Windows I get strange things, like not all options available, ripple water No Go, some non-transparent textures VERY transparent (an old hot tub).

I am DELIGHTED that I have Linux to compare with!

It seems the Windows People DESPARATELY need a Tofu :D

Windlight works great for me. All graphics settings Maxed out, all addition nondefault rendering enabled in the client menu. None of the reported log errors. A few rendering issues, such as invisible av's and parts of buildings above 400+ meters, but understandable and reported to improve the final product. Windlight is a 'First Look' viewer and did note "may be buggier then usual" on the download page. I lol for every thread dedicated to bashing the viewer for it's bugs... report them don't whine about them, it waste threads and makes it harder to sort through for more intelligable issues being experienced. I have used it as my primary viewer since the release and have experienced fewer crashes than with the normal viewer. There are lighting issues with contrast on avs, some easily fixed by adjusting monitor settings, some are the Windlight viewers contrast, but some skins being poorly designed is also an issue (this will only be resolvable by LL posting resolution requirements for future skin designers, perhaps the move into 1024x1024 textures).

a few System Specs:

Windows Vista
Intel Core 2 QuadProcessor Q6600
3GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 7350LE (128MB)~ driver 7.15.11.6375

*** for those who choose to use Windlight over the candidate viewer and wish to temporarily resolve the invisible avs at high altitude, have your guest attach a prim attachment to their av after arrival, they will then appear. Minor inconvenience***
