Hi, just to start this up i would like to suggest a meeting point for Linuxers in SL. So kind of a SL LUG (Linux User Group). THis could be funny. I know there are "Groups" for Linux already but I did not find a "place" with Linux in its name. I would suggest to build such places that we can extend with other open source groups like GNOMERs KDErs, FreeBSD guys as neighbours maybe. Can we do this? This place could be more practical for our uses. I am new to SL so I do not know much about possibilities - can there be a screen that is a terminal? That would be funny - community hacking - like on some Linux events like GUADEC (GNOME Users and Developers Eorpean Conference). I can also install a wiki for RL information if wanted. (btw. would love to surf inside of SL instead of another window. Firefox script for SL? ) Bye, Vinci Calamari

A SL Linux Wiki would be worth it, organizing all this information here along with the bugs.
I'm working on a place myself now, based on my own comic strip.

great idea. you know damn well youd have an area with a high percentage of code-wise players. would be great to hang out and shoot the breeze. would also be useful to have linux users together in the SL world in close proximity to each other for testing purposes.

So I am not a premium user an cannot buy land. But i have created the wiki now at: http://stux.wikiinfo.org/moin.py/I call this wiki site SecondLinux. I will create an interwiki link to the official tiki soon. All users welcome but please choose another password, not the one you use in SecondLife I do not want to be responsible if there is a security breach and you will get problems. But it would be nice if you choose SLs FirnameLastname as your username, so it is easy to link your contribution to your virtual identity. Vinci

Linutic Asylum on my land maybe?
03-06-2006 04:03
I have a place on the mainland that I am not actually using, but cannot bear to part with. I am quite happy for this to be a meeting point for any Linutics When I get home, I will post the location of the place in this thread, if that is any help, and if I should do anything else to make it easier to find, let me know. IM, private message, posts here or whatever. I am on European time, so any coordination would have to be "asynchronous", unless you can catch me before I go to bed...

Vinci ... one minor point, Vinci: www.secondlive.com is not a website (bottom of the Wiki page) I LOVE the idea of a wiki, though. I hope some of our Really Good Experts will see fit to put some stuff in there. Being a sort of "intermediate user level" in Linux, I don't want to parade my semi-understood "almost knowledge" in a wiki!

land available for group meetings etc
03-06-2006 11:25
I have set the land at Maryport (181,147,55) to the group Linux Client Users. If anyone wants to use it for meetings, it is bare at the moment. Remember to be in the group when you set up anything there, as autoreturn is set to 5 minutes Try to stay within the 117 prims available, as I have other land on the same sim and don't want my stuff there to be returned!

Don't worry about us going over the 117 prim limit, you set the land to "no build".

Why not just set up a new page on the official support wiki? Also, this forum software puts your name at the left hand side of each of your posts, so you don't need to sign them.

From: Sky Roundfield Why not just set up a new page on the official support wiki? I think we could use both. If you know a good place for a wiki page may be you can create it. I think a wiki for us alone alows us to make our own rules and to grow without thinking about which page is too much. But nonetheless I agree that Linux content should be in official Wiki. bye, Vinci

I think SecondLife-URL would be: http://slurl.com/secondlife/maryport/181/147/55/?title=Linux%20Meeting%20Point&msg=come%20to%20our%20meeting%20point%21I have made this with Slurl ( http://slurl.com/ ). So now we just need a date. I suggest next friday 03/10/06 at 21:00 GMT. So what time is this in SL?
